The MRN (Muslim Researchers' Network) is a platform that aims to promote progress and excellence in academic research conducted by Muslims spanning all subjects in the sciences and humanities.
The objectives of MRN are threefold:
The advancement of education and the advancement of Islamic faith by:
1. supporting academic research across all fields by Muslims in the UK
2. the provision of grants, non-financial support, and advice to Muslim students to access higher academic education in the UK and
3. developing a collaborative network of Muslim academics and students alongside academics and students of all other faiths

Meet Our Team
MOHAMADY EL-GABYMRN ChairMohamady is a postdoctoral Neuroscientist at the University of Oxford. His research involves investigating the neural mechanisms underlying memory and abstraction. In addition, he teaches cellular and circuit Neuroscience to undergraduate students.

IMRAN NAVEDProgrammes CoordinatorImran is currently pursuing his DPhil within the Hypersonics Group at the Oxford Thermofluids Institute, University of Oxford. His DPhil focuses on the application of transpiration cooling as a thermal protection system for wing leading edges; especially to mitigate the high heat fluxes caused by shock-shock interactions.

HANNAH RANAOperations & FinanceHannah completed a DPhil in space cryogenics at the University of Oxford. Her research focused on developing Stirling pulse tube cryocoolers for astrophysics detectors. A full prototype of a spaceflight cryocooler has been built and tested in her lab.

MOUSTAFA MOUSTAFAProjects ManagerMoustafa has a BEng in Aerospace Engineering from Queen Mary University and a MPhil in Industrial Systems, Manufacture and Management from the University of Cambridge. Moustafa’s dissertation was in “Business Model Evolution in Emerging Industries – The Case of the Additive Manufacturing Industry”.

LIAM CHALCROFTEngagement OfficerLiam is an MRes/PhD student at the Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging, University College London. His research focuses on the application of deep learning to medical image analysis, with a particular focus on semantic segmentation of clinical brain scans for prognosis of aphasia in stroke patients. Prior to this, Liam completed an MSci in Chemical Physics at University of Bristol.

NAWAL ZIASecretaryNawal is a MBChB/PhD student at the University of Birmingham. Her research focuses on the role of extracellular vesicles in burns trauma, and looks into whether they could be used as predictors of complications such as sepsis.

SAMIHA MOHSENMedia OfficerSamiha is pursuing her undergraduate degree in History at the University of Oxford. Her interests go beyond but lie predominantly in late medieval intellectual and social history. Her current work focuses on the history of emotions in relation to theology.

DANYAL KHANResearch OfficerDanyal is currently pursuing an MPhil in Economics at the University of Oxford, having graduated with a BSc in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics at LSE. His dissertation sought to estimate the effect of competition between charities on the returns to fundraising. Danyal also serves as the Graduate Chair for the Oxford University Islamic Society.

HATICE SARE TEMELMentorship ManagerHatice is a PhD student at the University of Glasgow, School of Law. Her research is titled Global Justice and Migration. I aim to develop a critique of the current understanding, based on Rawls's Theory of Justice and its implications on immigration.

SAFIA KHANPodcast ManagerSafia is a medical student at the University of Oxford. She has academic interests in clinical neuroscience and medical humanities, particularly social determinants of health.

Usman is currently an undergraduate MSci Chemistry with Industrial Experience student at the University of Bristol, undertaking his final year project in Autonomous Translational Motion. In 2021, Usman undertook an industrial placement at Reckitt Research & Development Centre in Heidelberg, Germany.

NOOR QURASHISecretary 2021 Noor is an undergraduate student in History at Oriel College, University of Oxford. Her research interests include the history of America and the Near East in late antiquity. Noor has served as VP for the Oxford University Islamic Society (OUISOC).
